I laugh when non-divers ask.. how deep do you dive? I expect the maximum depth this day was 30ft. Average probably 10ft.

This particular day of diving is included on our Raja Ampat, Sorong-Sorong and Sorong-Halmahera-Lembeh itineraries. These trips are targeted toward underwater photographers and videographers.

The video was shot with a Sony HC3 camcorder in a Gates Housing with Fathom Super Wide Port, SWP25B. Captured in High Definition but converted to SD and Flash for display on the web page. You should see the hi-def version !

This is my first attempt at editing video. Your comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Take the link to my web page or use the link at the bottom of this page and send me an email. I'm looking for a better Flash encoder.. suggestions??

Thanks so much for watching the video!

Day in the Trip - Silversides on the Reef
Underwater Video - Raja Ampat Diving Video

Day in the Trip - Silversides on the Reef (5 minutes) is the second of the series.

Silversides on the Reef is from one of my most favorite days of diving in Raja Ampat. We don't always see silversides like this, but often enough that I had to choose from several different days on different trips over several years where we've had this experience. Not sure this was the ultimate day in Raja Ampat for them.... but it was a memorable one! .... more

Silversides on the Reef - Raja Ampat

"Day in the Trip - Silversides on the Reef" is the second of a series of 1 to 5 minute videos each created from one single day of diving on our Indonesia dive trips.

Silversides on the Reef is from one of my most favorite days of diving in Raja Ampat. We don't always see silversides like this, but often enough that I had to choose from several different days on different trips over several years where we've had this experience. Not sure this was the ultimate day in Raja Ampat for them.... but it was a memorable one!

raja ampat silverside cloud

Like "Day in the Trip - Deep Water Mangroves" most of the action is near the surface which accounts for the bright colors of fish and corals. Although the fish appear silver from a distance, they are actually a red color in the shade where the sunlight is not reflecting off them. Overhead there were often masses of the tiny fish that blocked much of the sunlight making the color of corals appear jewel-like and creating sunbeams and shadows.

raja ampat soft corals

The Anemonefish really were in red-colored anemones. The lionfish and the Clown Triggerfish were deep, perhaps 80 feet. I followed the sea snake from the surface down to 100ft.

This dive site is always covered with beautiful soft corals and an amazing growth of multi-colored sea fans. Often there are large schools of barracuda, jacks or snappers, turtles, Mobula Rays and always a plethora of reef fish. When I get the chance I'll choose another day from this same Raja Ampat dive site and create another underwater video.

This particular day of diving is included on our Raja Ampat, Sorong-Sorong and Sorong-Halmahera-Lembeh itineraries. These trips are targeted toward underwater photographers and videographers.

The video was shot with a Sony HC3 camcorder in a Gates Housing with Fathom Super Wide Port, SWP25B and without a white balance control. Captured in High Definition but converted to SD and Flash for display on the web page. This severely reduces the quality, but does allow me to show many more divers the glories of Raja Ampat.

Your comments and constructive criticism are very welcome. Take the link to my web page or use the link at the bottom of this page and send me an email. I'm still looking for a better way to encode these very detailed videos with high motion... suggestions??

Day in the Trip - Mimic Octopus, Raja Ampat Muck Diving
Day in the Trip - Mimic Octopus
Underwater Video - Raja Ampat Diving Video

Day in the Trip - Mimic Octopus (2 minutes)

If the group loves muck diving we'll spend a full day exploring the barren looking black sand slopes for unusual creatures. It was late afternoon and some of our dive buddies decided to rest, but not us! Just about dusk Mike saw this Mimic Octopus out of its hole exploring the area. It was attracted to his metal pointer stick, grabbed hold of it and tried to pull it away! .... read more on the video page.

Day in the Trip - Pink and Blue, Raja Ampat Corals and Schooling Fish
Day in the Trip - Pink n' Blue
Underwater Video - Raja Ampat Diving Video

Day in the Trip - Pink n' Blue (4 minutes)

Heaven underwater! In December we dived a new site with beautiful, very colorful, hard and soft corals and thousands of brightly colored fishes swirling all around us.

I was impressed with the pristine corals on top of the reef with lovely shades of pink behind the avalanche of blue fusiliers. Since that first visit I've made sure we return to this Raja Ampat dive site again and again.

Plenty of dive sites in Raja Ampat have lovely shallow areas for underwater video and wide angle photography. Clips in this video are from our first dive on this site! .... read more on the video page.

Diver's Comments:

"This was the only organized trip I have ever taken where I was able to dive the way I like to dive, no problems and no hassles. ... I'd like to join another of your expeditions in the near future."

"We found the trip to be exactly as advertised and it exceeded our expectations due primarily to the hard work of the excellent crew and to Deb's experience and attention for creating a photo rich environment. This was by far the best photography oriented dive trip that we've ever taken!"
