Raja Ampat Photography Portfolio from Scuba Globe Magazine, Vol 1 Issue 3.

This particular shot was created at Cape Kri. The current was exceptionally strong running over the top of the reef and created a very smooth surface and pumped up corals surrounded by dense schools of fish.

Prior to my approach to this spot, 50-100 sweetlips and batfish of different species were clustered around this bommie. It was quite a sight, but they were not so approachable as to be captured with a wide angle lens.

The shot was taken at about 40ft. The smooth surface and clear water meant very bright conditions so I could see the brilliant colors of the corals without artificial light. Outstanding! Through the smooth surface I could see the clouds and a bit of the palms on the island. Really an amazingly beautiful dive and opportunity for photos.

Light direction and current are very important for creative underwater photography.
