Ambon: Ambon's diving was one of the mecca's of Indonesia's diving until the mid-90's when conflict in the area forced out tourists and the only dive operation. Things have calmed down and divers have been going back!
We've been there to check out both the diving and Maluku Divers operation.
The near-mythical Twilight Zone, king of the Muck Dives in Ambon at Laha is still great. Previously this site was filled with devil scorpionfish, strange octopus, boxer crabs, leaf scorpionfish, nudibranchs galore, weird frogfish, shrimps, stargazers.. the list goes on. Still is. Flamboyant Cuttlefish, Rhinopious, loads of frogfish, Cockatoo Waspfish, ghost pipefish.. its gonna give Lembeh Strait some competition for sure!
Reef dives around Ambon are also spectacular with good coral coverage, schooling fish and unusual formations.
Ambon is easy to reach from Manado, Bali or Jakarta with daily flights to and from Sulawesi.

Maluku Divers / Ambon Dive Center
Maluku Divers is now operating in the old Ambon Dive Centre. New equipment and new management, same wonderful dive sites!
This Ambon dive centre is located about 30 min. drive southeast of the airport and Ambon City in a pleasant area where local people also enjoy a holiday. It sits across the road from a beautiful beach and suprisingly good night dive.
Maluku Divers currently offers diving in the Ambon area in basic accommodation that is clean and comfortable. New accommodation is under construction and expected available in Sept. 2007.
The
new accommodation is all en-suite (private baths), has twin or double combination of beds in every
room, has A/C and is located on the beach, with direct ocean views. There
will be communal editing areas for photographers, in roofed environments. Guests can also work on photography equipment at tables in the guests rooms. Maluku Divers has new boats with larger engines. A
big investment has gone into the operation.
All divemasters and instructors are PADI certified and knowledgeable about the local dive sites.
Maluku Divers Dive Packages
Maluku Divers' Dive Packages include accommmodation, all meals, non-alcoholic drinks and diving.
Maluku Divers rates currently, in basic accommodation, are US$130 including 3 dives per day, meals, snacks, tax & service charges. Airport transfer are not included and are $25 each way.
7 Night / 6 Day Ambon- Maluku Divers Dive Package - 2007
Rates for 6 days diving and 7 nights at the resort in the new upscale accommodation.
Dive Package Rate of $1,216.00 includes:
- 6 days of 3 guided day dives,
- full board, three full meals and assorted snacks each day
- accommodation (twin share)
- return airport transfers,
- unlimited coffee, tea and fresh water
- all tax and service charges
- For City Seahorse packages - 3 free unguided night dives
Book now for 2008 and pay 2007 prices! 25% deposit required. Please ask about basic accommodation rates.
City Sea Horse Packages are also entitled to three complimentary unguided night dives during the week.
Unused dives for the package are non-transferrable.
Small fuel surcharges will be applied to dive sites further from the dive centre.
