2011: Raja Ampat 100%
  - City Seahorse Charters -

liveaboard in Raja Ampat

These 100% Raja Ampat trips are the best of the best.

Only two dates in 2011.

Each year I organize and accompany a few specialty trips, the "City Seahorse Charters", to only the best dive spots in In the world. I've been doing this since 1994.

Comment from Michael Pollack. "I think 14 day trips are a good idea. The travel is so extensive that it makes sense to maximize the time at the destination. The Ondina is so well run, and the diving so outstanding, that a longer time on the boat beats a boat + side trip itinerary. I was really impressed with the boat this time around. I'd rate it an "A" on our recent trip."

So at the request of repeat guests on these trips, I've made these 2011 trips a bit longer. Still have some space available on both of these:

Oct 24 - Nov 7, 2011, 14 days & nights, $4995
Nov 11 - 22, 2011, 12 days & nights, $4295

These 12 and 14 day trips will give us time to venture into more of Raja Ampat than ever before. There are many more dive sites to explore and we still like to repeat our favorites!

Get more out of your trip to Raja Ampat. Why don't you join us in 2011 for one of our longer trips and see the difference for yourself?

On every City Seahorse charter I emphasize flexibility and diving with as few limitations as can be managed safely. We will try for 4+dives/day.  Unlimited diving time. Staying at the good sites for photography, video and adventure.  Guests participate in the selection of itinerary and dive sites. Open deck days are our guests' favorites, allowing divers to dive when they want. Sorong-Sorong trips are ultimately suited for this style of diving.

The 2010 trips were sold out months in advance. So unless you plan to wait for cancellations, its best to reserve your space now.

Our limited participation trips cost approximately the same as other trips that carry full loads of divers - but we get lots more dives, more time underwater and more personal attention.

New Ambon - Sorong 2011 Trip

reflections in Raja Ampat

This dive trip is now open for bookings.

Tana Toraja:
Oct 1 - 8, 2011
, 7 days & nights - land-based
Ambon-Sorong Dive Cruise:
Oct 10-21, 2011
, 11 days & nights, $3755

Each year I offer one trip that is not Sorong - Sorong. Some divers just love one way trips! Our repeat guests like to try something different. This one has the chance to add an exciting land-based adventure.

We will start the dive portion of the trip on Oct 10 in Ambon with some critter diving (nice opportunity to add on some days of land-based muck diving - just ask). Then continue on to the Banda Islands before heading north again toward Raja Ampat where we will finish the trip with the best sites in Raja Ampat and disembark in Sorong.

Tana Toraja. Few divers seem to spend time on land in Indonesia. We've made four trips to Tana Toraja now and every one of them has been absolutely amazing!

Oct 1 - 8, 2011, 7 days & nights Tana Toraja

Come to Indonesia for an extra week for a land-based journey you will never forget. No extra air travel required as divers will pass through Sulawesi on the way to Ambon. See Phil Sokol's photos on the right and his gallery for an idea of what you will see.

The Tana Toraja trip price is based on number of participants. It can be done with 2 or up to 6. No more than that is recommended. This trip is also organized to be flexible. The itinerary will vary by the day (even hour sometimes) depending on events and weather. It won't be just another "canned" travel agency tour, but personalized for those participating. Another possibility is Oct 22-29 following the dive cruise.

Toraja has too much to offer to include in this newsletter. Please email and ask to include this trip with your Ambon-Sorong dive cruise. It can also be arranged before or after the other 2011 cruises.

2011 Ambon - Sorong Dive Trip Prices Include:

  • 11 days & nights
  • liveaboard accommodations in private cabin with A/C, ensuite bath, double share
  • 3+ dives per day
  • 1:3 or 1:4 guide to diver ratio
  • 4 meals per day + afternoon snack, 24 hr. free snacks, tea, coffee & bottled water
  • On site trip organizer/leader to supervise & assist with problems
  • transfers between the airport and ship
  • ship fees and taxes
  • your choice of aluminum or steel tank, weights & weight belt

Not Included in Ambon - Sorong 2011 prices:

  • fuel surcharge of $170
  • diver tags & tourist fees ($85)
  • dive gear rental, massage
  • crew tips

I have either double occupancy or a guaranteed single cabin available on this trip (extra cost for a single).

This one is a bit less suitable for photography since we will be on a schedule in order to make the one way journey.

A Note from DebF

underwater video - DebF

Normally I balance my newsletter columns, but this month I couldn't decide which thumbnails of Phil's images to leave off.

I've included them all!

Just a couple of notes here in case you are traveling to Indonesia and don't know.

"The Kaimana Tourism Office has decided to extend the closure of all Kaimana area (including Triton Bay) for any tourism related activities especially diving. The Kaimana Tourism Office has not reached any agreement with the tenurial right owners, so it is advised that all liveaboards postpone their trips to Kaimana."

Many liveaboards (including SMY Ondina, the ship I charter) have rerouted their trips until this is settled. It does not impact any City Seahorse trips.

Small hr

I believe we provide a superior trip because we know the area, work hard to get our divers into the most productive situations and work as a team with the ship's crew plus hire and bring extra divemasters!

We are off to Indonesia in less than two weeks for a month diving Raja Ampat. Sure will be great to get back into that warm water and be one with the fishes again.

We'll be diving with many repeat guests (65%) and hosting our first honeymoon couple !

Thanks for reading my newsletter.  I look forward to helping you plan an exciting dive trip!

Best Wishes for Fishes,

Deb Fugitt,
